Erica leaned against the wall with her arms folded over her chest.She sighed and closed her eyes.She was waiting for her date who had obviously ditched her.She held back tears,Did I really think he would come? She thought to herself.He probably got drunk and went off with another girl. A singal tear rolled down her cheek.

Jason scanned the bar from his seat on a barstool. He let his head rest on his hand as he scrutinized the place. It wasn't much, but to him it was everything he'd ever known. The Town of Two Rivers was the only place he'd ever been. As his eyes swept over the loud area, they focused on one person in particular. Leaning against a far wall was a girl, alone. At least he thought she was alone. Curious, he got up from his seat and headed over to her.

"Hey," he said as he reached her, tilting his head to try and see her face better in the dim light. "You here yourself?" he asked her, though that was obvious. He noticed the tearful look on her face and decided to give her some company."Hey, why don't you come sit with me and have a drink?" he asked her, smiling.

She looked up and quickly brushed the tear away. Ummm,sure. She siad with a small smile of her own.

He smiled back, took the girls hand, and led her over to the bar, pulling up a stool beside his for her to sit on. "I'm Jason," he said to the girl. "And quite frankly, I'm curious what you're doing here. By yourself. at least..." he trailed off, not wanting to hit a possibly touchy subject.

She sat down. Well,I was waiting for someone.But I guess,that.....They just couldn't make it. She said.

Jason frowned at this bit of information. It was clear that her date, if that was what it was, had never showed up. Why would a guy leave a girl like this on her own? "Hey, it'll be alright. You want something? It's on me." he offered, indicating the bartender.

She shook her head.No,but thanks anyway. She didn't really drink much,but was glad he offered.

He smiled and nodded in understanding. He himself wasn't really a heavy drinker either. He drank a can of beer or two every now and then, but never so much that he lost his mind. "You know, they have more than alchohol here. Sure you don't want a soda or something?" he asked.

Coke please. She said with a soft smile.She looked around the room then back to him.

With a smile, he signaled the bartender, repeating the order. "Hey, you planning on sticking around for a while? If not, I can take you home," he offered, either desicion not making much difference.

She smiled. "Thanks."

"No problem," he replied, looking around the bar. He knew what some of these guys were capable of. It was the least he could do to keep her away from them.

She sighed. What am I doing here anyways? She thought.She forced a smile and looked out a small window.

He saw her smile, though he could tell it took het quite a bit of effort to get it there. "Come on," he said, indicating his head toward the door. "My truck's just outside.

She looked to the floor and back up again. I guess it wouldn't hurt. Alright. She said.

He smiled and slid off his stool, holding out his hand to help her down. "Come on. Let's get you home."

She smiled some & hesitantly took his hand,sliding off her own stool. Thanks again. She said,forgetting her pain.

"It's no problem. Really. It's not like I have anything to do, you know? And you shouldn't be here," he said, stepping towards the door. He tugged lightly on her arm, not dropping her hand, as he made his way out of the bar and to his truck.

She nodded,following him out.The night's cold air stung her face though she ignored it.Her hair shimmered in the dim streetlights' rays.Her eyes were soft yet somewhat sad & depressing.She sighed heavily as she looked up into the starless sky.It was like a never ending black pit.
