The shifty stud jumped as the doors of the auction ring swung open, and the buzz of a hundred different mouths talking filled his delicate ears. The noise set his legs in motion. He pranced, tossing his head violently, his black mane cutting the air. The small man who had been put in charge of restraining him looked worried. The stallion towered over him. Froth flew from his mouth. He snorted in annoyance. After more antics, the stud conceded to being led into the ring. The auctioneer immediatly began speaking in strange, fast tongue. The horse was confused. He reared, drawing up to his full height, pulling the lead from the handler's hands. Landing back on all four feet, he nickered loudly, scanning the audience. He definitely did not like this place. "May we begin the bidding at $10,000?" the auctioneer asked the crowd. ---------- Anthem Bay Thoroughbred Stallion 5 years old, 16.2 hands History: The blood of legends flow through this young stallion's veins. Bred and raised at the famous Claiborne Stud Farm, Anthem is sired by the outstanding stallion Pulpit out of a full sister to Storm Cat. He was destined for greatness on the track before an injury during training as a two-year-old shattered his racing potential. He has just recently been declared fully fit and sound again, and is ready to be re-trained in a new career. His stud potential is also through the roof, as he has magnificent breeding AND a stunning conformation. Personality: Anthem is fiery. He has a lot of go, like many Thoroughbreds. He is also very dominant and "studdish" around other horses, and will probably need to be kept alone in a pasture (unless you want your mares impregnated!). He loves to run and jump; you'd think he had steel springs in those hindquarters of his.

[I'm sorry but Anthem is only offered to at least semi-experienced RPG'ers. I can't play with someone who only does one-liners.]

(OOC: For God sakes, Megan, pick one. You were posting for that other stud I was interested in, now I go for this one and you go for it.)
Hands shoved into the pockets of her puffy black North Face vest, Shawna drew to a halt by the sale pen, grey eyes scanning the lean frame of the Thoroughbred stud. Schultz lowered his haunches beside her, ears pricked as far as they could go in their floppy way as he sat obediently at his human's side. Subconsciously rubbing the Rottie's ear, Shawna raised her other hand in a split-second decision. "Twelve thousand,"

The auctioneer looked relieved. It had been nearly dead silent since the stallion's antics in the show ring. "Going once...going twice...SOLD! To the young woman with the handsome dog," he said cheerfully, slamming his gavel down on the wooden base. The stallion jumped at the noise, his nostrils distended, snorting loudly. His slender legs danced lightly, easily carrying his weight. He was so light on his feet, he seemed to weigh hardly more than a feather. The handler quickly lead him from the ring back to his stall, to await his new owner to claim him.

With a semi-triumphant smile, Shawna maneuvered around the sale pen to the back where her new horse awaited. Schultz padded gently at her side as they came to the handler of the animal and the stallion himself. Grey eyes trained on the stud, Shawna wrote out the check for twelve grand and handed it to the handler with a light smile in the guy's direction. "Thanks, I'll take him from here." As she moved toward Anthem, Shawna slowly extended a flattened palm, offering it to the stallion in a non-threatening fashion. "Hey there, handsome guy," She crooned softly. Before she took him home, it couldn't hurt to get to know him a bit. This way, for him, it wouldn't seem like he was going home with just some random person.

The stallion was a ball of nerves in his current surroundings. The strange woman standing outside his stall was the only one who had spoken kindly to him all day, even if it was one brief sentence. He sniffed her hand from a small distance, his nostrils making a loud, hollow sound as he drew breath into his giant lungs. He stretched his neck a little further, making the slightest contact with her palm. His nose was soft; he lipped her hand slightly, wondering if she was offering him anything good to eat. He snorted when he discovered she wasn't. He withdrew his head and watched her carefully, still undecided on her. He supposed that he didn't have a choice, but perhaps he'd be lucky; perhaps she would actually care for him on a personal level. He continued to shift his gaze all around, his ears constantly swiveling to catch every noise. It was obvious that the place made him act up.

Watching the stud's neurotic motioning, Shawna reached for the leadrope coiled on the hook outside the stallion's stall. It was indeed clear that the bustle and excitement of the auction house was making him a nervous wreck. Unlatching the stall door, she slipped inside, laying a gently, calming hand on the stallion's muscled shoulder, gently stroking his lean neck in attempt to calm him. "Easy, easy, you're OK," She gently ruffled his coal-black mane, peering over his withers at the excitement outside the stall which was clear to Anthem's view. Shaking her head, she slid the stud chain over his nose and clipped it, giving his neck a gentle pat. "Let's get you out of here. Who in their right mind puts a Thoroughbred stallion out here in the open where he can see other horses flipping out," She muttered, pushing the stall door open as she clucked her tongue gently, ready to step out of the way incase Anthem chose to charge out in front of her, but so she still had a good handle on him. And being around 5'5 like she was, that probably wouldn't be too easy. "Come on, Anthem. We're going home, sweetie. Schultz, come." She tossed a glance over her shouldet at the Rottweiler standing by the stall door. Schultz eyed the two of them carefully, knowing from past experiences to stay out of the way of horses' feet, but obeyed his human's command, trotting in front of them while still off to the side, checking back every so often to make sure he hadn't lost sight of Shawna or the horse.

Even though he was anxious, he realized the girl was getting him out of here. Surprisingly, he obediently allowed her to step in and attach the leadrope, and followed like a puppy as she lead him out of the stall. He was glad to be getting away from this noisy place, and his steps were enthusiastic and quick.

Exhaling slowly, Shawna gave the stallion's neck a gentle pat as she led him out of the stall and to her four-horse trailer attached to the blue Tahoe Chevrolet. She led him around the side as she dug leg wraps out of the side panel. Tying his leadrope to one of the metal rings, she wrapped all four of his legs and untied the leadrope, making sure they were securely fastened before moving to lower the ramp. Opening the side door, she returned to the stallion's side as she coaxed him into the trailer. "C'mon, buddy, it's OK. We're going home," She crooned softly, giving the leadrope gentle tugs every so often to ease him into the trailer.

The stallion snorted with uncertainty at the trailer, pulling back slightly on Shawna's lead. His hooves dug into the dirt. But when he heard her voice, coaxing him gently, he began taking baby steps, then finally walked onto the trailer, snorting slightly. He sniffed around, still a little doubtful, but not too frightened.

"Good boy, thatsa good boy," Shawna walked with him, Moving toward the side door as soon as the stallion was situated. Reaching for the trailer tie, she clipped it to his halter to keep him standing still until she latched everything to ensure a safe ride home. Stroking his neck reassuringly, she continued to calm him until she stepped out, filling up a water bucket and clipped it to the latch on the wall, then pushed a flake of hay into the manger to keep him occupied until they got to the barn. Closing the side door, she moved to the back, latching the butt-bar on his divider then pushed the ramp back up, fastening it before closing both side doors, making sure they were latched before she headed to her car. Wiping her hands on her jeans, Shawna exhaled slowly before glancing over her shoulder, trying to catch sight of Schultz. Sure enough, the Rottweiler stood by the car, peering at her as though waiting for her to open the door. "Alright, Schultzie, in." She said, opening the door as she helped her heavy-set dog into the car. Schultz immedietly lowered himself onto the seat, waiting for his human to get into the car hersef.
